The Baby

I was walking down the street heading towards my car to leave for the race. That’s when I heard a whimper coming from the bushes next to me. Out of curiosity I decided to take a peak and find out what it was. When I came upon it I was stunned, my jaw dropped and my mind started racing, I had know idea what to do.
My first thought was just to walk away and get in my car and leave, but when I glanced down again and so those big ocean blue eyes I couldn’t. I bent down, and stayed there for awhile and just thought. This baby couldn’t be much more than two months old.
What a way to spend my Friday night, it was too late to make it to the race so I decided to pick up the baby and bring it back to my apartment. Walking down the street I thought what I should do. I have no knowledge in babies, no one I can ask or turn to. I brought the baby to my apartment and laid it on the couch. I decided to walk back to that bush and look for any notes or anything that could give me a sign on who this baby belonged to. When I got to the bush I ruffled around for a bit and looked through the tall grass but couldn’t find anything.
I figured the baby was hungry so I went and got him from my apartment and walked up to the store and bought some Gerber baby food. I thought that I better get back to the bush incase the baby’s mother came back to pick him up. The baby was a little squirmier, it kept moving, he always wanted to just crawl away but really didn’t know how to. That’s when I smelt it, a smell so disgusting that I knew the baby had pooped. I grabbed the baby and ran up to the store and but a pack of baby wipes and diapers. Then I did the impossible and changed the things diaper. I found out that the baby was a boy.
After waiting about two hours for the mother to come back to the bush, I figured I should probably take the baby back to my apartment so he could sleep. I made him a little bed on my bed so he wouldn’t roll off and get hurt. I woke up hearing a horrible cry coming from the baby, so I ran into my room and picked him up, and as soon as I did he had stopped crying. It made me feel really good and happy. After about ten minutes of walking around the baby fell back asleep and set him down on my bed. I decided to sit up for a while and figure out a plan on what I was going to do thus morning with the baby. When the baby woke up at about 7:30 am I made him some breakfast and myself some also. After we got done eating I decided to head over the police department and see if they could do anything. I walked through the doors of the police department and headed straight for the desk. I saw a couple cops that I knew who had arrested me before. I smiled at them and they glared at me. I asked the nice police officer at the desk what I should do and he told me to grab a number and wait in line.
Finally I got up and asked what I should do, he gave me a bunch of paperwork to fill out, I started filling it all out and after that he told me to bring the baby to social services and they would take care of it from there. I started thinking that I sort of wanted to adopt the baby and keep him. This day that I spent with him had changed my outlook on life completely. When I got to social services I asked if there was way I could adopt the child and they said they would do a background check and let me know.
It turned out that if you have a criminal record you can’t adopt the baby, so they wouldn’t let me. I got pretty sad after they told me that, they ended up taking the child to a foster home and told me to go back home. I think about how different my life would have been if I was able to adopt the baby boy. Maybe some day I’ll run into him again.

I like the way you reveal that it's a baby you are finding--you let it be a little mysterious instead of just stating it right away. I like the good details here (the diaper, the Gerber, etc)and I like the ending.

Needs some proofreading...

It was a good story but you did not really want to keep the baby. WORK ON YOUR KNUCKLEBALL.

Micheal, the criminal who wants to adopt an abandoned baby. Sounds like a good guy, but what did he do to get a criminal record? Sensitive father vs. Tough criminal. Good job on making the two mix. The build up was good too. Needs a little editing and grammar checks

This is a touching story about how your life was changed. The fact that you spent time with the baaby and took care of them. However i find it hard to believe, that you a teenage guy, randomly decided that you wanted to adopt a newborn baby. A baby is a huge responsibility and you didnt even know what to do when you did have it. The most interesting tie was when you said that anyone who has been arrested are not allowed to adopt. Your life would have been alot different if you had a child. It would have changed forever!!
